1. inflation- a drastic drop in the value of money coupled with a rise in prices
    mercenary- foreign soldiers who fought for money- felt little sense of loyalty to Roman Empire
    Diocletian- a strong-willed army leader, became the emperor
    Constantinople- the city of Constantine, after Constantine's death, the empire would be divided again; the e\East would survive, but the west would fall
    Attila- first powerful chieftain- terrorized both halves of the empire
3. The main internal causes of the empire's decline was inflammation and the separation of the empire.
